The Indigenous Teacher Education Program (NITEP) at UBC is a five-year concurrent program. Students and alumni are using their NITEP education to advance Indigenous educational priorities in classrooms, schools, organizations, and communities. NITEP features the following:
- Bachelor of Education Degree with an Indigenous specialization
- Holistic support that nurtures identity, belonging, and wellbeing.
- A cohort model that creates community and support amongst NITEP students
- Courses and curricula enhanced through Indigenous perspectives including local Elders & knowledge keepers
- Support from Indigenous mentors and educators
- A traditional program with contemporary values that exemplifies how Indigeneity can be interwoven within mainstream post-secondary education
