Fraser River Indigenous Society facilitates cultural and life skills workshops, designed to support homeless and at risk individuals looking to establish themselves in a safe environment. As a volunteer, you will provide connection to the community of Pitt Meadows & Maple Ridge.
Through connection, you provide support and resources to homeless and at risk individuals and families. Through this program your work advances the message that we are in this together and no one gets left behind.
We are looking for patient, kind and caring volunteers to offer support in the form of conversation and compassionate listening.
Full training is provided.

Equestrian Support North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association: NFTRA is searching for program volunteers to assist with grooming, feeding, tacking up, leading horses and side-walking with riders during lessons. Must be physically fit and able to work outside (in a barn setting) with horses and people of all abilities. Covenant House Vancouver Thank You Program: This is a volunteer opportunity for students wishing to help out that would like to make a difference. The Covenant House helps youth aged 16 – 24 years of age who have fled abuse or those who have aged out of foster care. Volunteers are need at the Thank Athon which acknowledges donors. Katie’s Place Animal Shelter always welcomes people who want to give their time for the animals. Help is always needed with cleaning and feeding; shopping or picking up donated items; simple sewing; making crafts for fundraisers; carpentry; cuddling the cats; fostering babies, elderly or special needs animals; fundraising; and grounds maintenance. There’s a niche at Katie’s Place for almost any skill set, and we can accommodate any schedule. Gardening/Cooking Intergenerational Garden: Volunteers are needed to share their love of gardening with children at the Intergenerational Garden at 22527 Edge Street in Maple Ridge. Training Opportunities:
The BC 3C Challenge- Indigenous Entrepreneurial Training
The 3C Challenge is an opportunity for Indigenous people, ages 18 to 35, to develop their business skills and explore their entrepreneurial spirit. Each participant will gain a deeper understanding of how they can connect culture, community, and commerce to support their success.
The 3C Challenge takes place over 45 days and is broken into two main components. The first segment involves 5 days of intensive, online business training with two Indigenous facilitators from the University of Victoria. The curriculum that is taught has been specifically designed for the 3C Challenge. Lessons include, idea generation, communication skills, marketing, creating a business plan, and team work! The proceeding 40 days will allow participants to bring their business idea to market. Working alongside a community business mentor for the first 30 days and access to investment funds, each team will be able to market and sell their products or services in their communities and through social media.
