In response to student input to gather and connect with other students across the district to develop a stronger sense of belonging and community, the Aboriginal Education Department is excited to be hosting the ‘Re-ignite’ Leadership Event on Wednesday, November 17th, 2021 from 9:00am to 2:30pm at Maple Ridge Secondary School – small gym. The number of students attending this session at each school is based on the maximum number allowed in the facility space. Students are expected to wear masks during the conference and to maintain a social distance of 6 feet.
Similar to the Ignite experience for Grade 6 students, there will be a variety of team building activities and opportunities for students to connect throughout the day. Students will also have the privilege of working with Katzie First Nation community members Len Pierre and Rain Pierre. Both Len and Rain will be providing workshops for the students in what it means to be an Indigenous Leader & pursuing one’s passions. The purpose of the session is to understand that they belong to a greater community of youth that are ready to become the next generation of change makers within both their school and together in their local communities. During this event, students’ ideas, voice & vision will be collected by Rain Pierre who, alongside his team, will design a district leadership shirt that will be distributed to participating students.
- If they require transportation, participating students are asked to arrive at their school site by 8:00am
- Food? light snacks for the morning and a full lunch offered for students.
